The safety performance standards of architectural paints mainly include volatile organic compound (VOC) content, formaldehyde content, benzene content and total lead content.

VOC content
Standard value: the limit value of interior wall paint is 80g/L, the limit value of exterior wall paint containing effect paint is 120g/L, the limit value of other types of exterior wall paint is 100g/L, and the limit value of putty is 10g/L.
Formaldehyde content
Standard value: Formaldehyde content limit value is 50mg/kg.
Benzene content
Standard value: The limit value of the total content of benzene series is 100mg/kg.
Total lead content
Standard value: The limit value of total lead (Pb) content is 90mg/kg.
Other security performance indicators
Soluble heavy metals: The "lead Pb" item and index in "soluble heavy metals" have been deleted.
Sum content of alkylphenol ethoxylate: The item and index of "sum content of alkylphenol ethoxylate" have been added.
Testing methods and standards
GB18582-2020: Clarified the definitions of "building", "wall paint for construction", "decorative panel paint", "effect pigment" and "construction status"; A new product category has been added, which divides architectural wall coatings into water-based wall coatings and decorative panel coatings.
GB8624-2012: It is used for the classification of combustion performance of building materials and products, and evaluates the combustion rate, flame propagation distance, heat release rate, smoke density and toxic gases generated during the combustion process of materials.
These standards ensure the safety of architectural paint to the environment and the human body during use, and meet the national environmental protection requirements.
